STP Tuesday Afternoon Optional Tours

STP will offer two optional tours this year on Tuesday afternoon. Details and pricing are below.

On-line Tour Registration

Red Rocks Amphitheatre & Coors Brewery Tour—Cancelled

To begin this tour, we’ll travel just outside Denver to Red Rocks, the world’s only naturally occurring amphitheatre. 300 million years old, these dramatic sandstone formations create an absolute acoustical phenomenon. Offering incredible panoramic views of the city, this amphitheatre is a long-time favorite for both musicians and concert fans and hosts over 350,000 concert-goers per year! At the base of Red Rocks, you will have the option to exit the motorcoach and browse the “Old West” trading post.

From there, you can either walk or ride to the top of Red Rocks to the venue’s underground Visitor Center, where you can walk through an interactive “Who’s Who” of legendary musicians who have played at Red Rocks through the years. Afterward, you will be off to Coors Brewery, where America’s finest quality beers have been produced for more than 120 years. Inspired by the springs of the Clear Creek Valley near Golden, Colorado, Adolph Coors, Sr. founded this business that not only survived the Depression and Prohibition, but has continued to prosper and expand through the years. The visit includes a tour through their unique malting, brewing, and packaging processes and, of course, some beer sampling. You’ll see how the refreshing flavor of Coors tastes even better in the Rocky Mountains!

Cost Per Person: $47.00
Minimum: 35 Guests
Maximum: Based on vehicle availability, no maximum
Duration: 5 hours roundtrip
Time: Leaving at 1:00 PM (MDT)
Transfer Time: 30 Minutes
Includes: Roundtrip transportation, DSC escort, tour guide, admission, applicable taxes and gratuities

* If the minimum number of guests do not register for the tour, the tour will be cancelled and guests will be refunded.

Discover Denver In A Day

Experience two sides of Denver—historic western town and thriving modern city—all on the same tour! This is a comprehensive tour of the city of Denver. From downtown, you’ll head east through some of Denver’s loveliest residential areas—stopping at two of Denver’s more than 200 parks—and get out for pictures at the Denver Museum of Nature and Science. At this point, you can view the stunning skyline of Denver and the mountains beyond—truly the stuff post cards are made of. Then you’ll head past the zoo, the Botanic Gardens, the Governor’s residence and into the main part of the city. You’ll see Denver’s famed sports complexes, the hip lower downtown or “LoDo” district, and up to the Capitol Hill area for a tour of the Colorado State Capitol building and the Denver Mint. By the end of this tour you will no longer be a stranger to the Mile High City!

Cost Per Person: $42.00
Minimum: 35 Guests
Maximum: Based on vehicle availability, no maximum
Duration: 3–4 hours roundtrip
Time: Leaving at 1:00 PM (MDT)
Includes: Roundtrip transportation, tour guide, applicable taxes and gratuities

* If the minimum number of guests do not register for the tour, the tour will be cancelled and guests will be refunded.

Member Organized Outings

Tuesday Free Afternoon Hike or Bike

This will be an informal activity without a guide. This means we will be at our own risk and the group will need to arrange for transportation and food on our own. The hike will be in White Ranch Open Space Park (see links below); this is a very beautiful park, not that well known, with incredible views. It will be ~1 hour drive to get to the west entrance, through beautiful Golden Gate Canyon. Options would be picnicking, hiking, mountain biking, or trail running; bikers will need to arrange for a bicycle and a way to transport it. We would leave as soon as possible after the meeting lets out at noon on Tuesday, so please plan on a sack lunch + trail snacks and to be dressed in layers, including a waterproof coat. Please plan on and be prepared for the following: you MUST carry LOTS of water (this is crucial), the park’s elevation ranges 7000–8000 feet (= oxygen deficient + can be cold especially after sunset), some trails are quite steep and rocky, and wildlife encounters are likely and can include mule deer, elk, bears, rattlesnakes, and mountain lions so appropriate caution/preparation is needed. The links below have elevation profiles and park maps. If necessary we can plan on splitting into groups based on activity/difficulty levels.

For anyone interested please contact STP Headquarters.

Tuesday Free Afternoon Whitewater Rafting

Clear Creek, located along I-70 about 45 minutes’ drive west of Denver, has some of the country’s best whitewater rafting. The water should be running high in late June, which will make the rafting especially exciting. On Tuesday afternoon, June 21, at 3:00 PM (MDT), there will be a rafting trip with Liquid Descent, located along I-70 near Idaho Springs, Colorado (2195 E Idaho Springs Road, Idaho Springs CO 80452, (970) 372-2870, contact@liquiddescent.com) There are 3 levels of trips available, beginner (which is actually pretty wild in June!), intermediate, and advanced (truly advanced). Liquid Descent recommends that we all take the intermediate trip to facilitate transportation, but they can still make it work if people want to do different trips. Each trip is several hours long. The rafts are guided by highly experienced, professional guides and instruction will be provided. All necessary gear except swimsuits is provided—personal flotation device, wet suit, booties, helmet, and paddle. The cost is normally $40 for the beginner trip, $50 for the intermediate, and $60 for the advanced, but the company will provide a 20% group discount if you mention STP when making the reservation. Depending on how many people sign up, we are working on getting group transportation from the meeting hotel in Denver. This is an informal trip, so please make your own reservations with Liquid Descent.
