The Department of Defense Veterinary Pathology Residency (DODVPR) resides within the AFIP Department of Veterinary Pathology. The DODVPR was formally established in 1983, although military training in the specialty dates to World War II. The Registry of Veterinary Pathology also resides within the Department of Veterinary Pathology. The Registry is a major focal point for veterinary pathology education through the sponsorship of its many onsite and online courses including Wednesday Slide Conference (WSC) and Veterinary Systemic Pathology Online (VSPO). The Base Realignment and Closure (BRAC) plan for the DODVPR is a move to Silver Spring (Forrest Glen Annex), MD co-locating with the Walter Reed Army Institute of Research in the summer of 2010.
